Who We Are

MAHETAGO COMMUNITY SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

Introduction
One of the key objectives of the National Development Plan NDP4 is to reduce the unemployment rate for the youth and other marginalised groups. As the scope for formal employment is limited, other areas for income generation need to be promoted. COSDEC Business Development Centres have been established to provide support to emerging entrepreneurs within the catchment area of the hosting COSDEC. The support is provided in form of skills development, incubation and coaching and mentoring.

Mission

To increase the income-earning capacity of Namibia’s marginalized populations – unemployed youth, women and low skilled adults by developing their entrepreneurial and essential skills and enhancing their participation in micro and small enterprises.

Vision

To be the preferred provider of community skills development training, to increase the income earning capacity of Namibia’s marginalized populations- unemployed youth, women and low skilled adults- by developing their entrepreneurial and essential skills and enhancing their participation in micro and small enterprises.

Business Incubation Units

The Business Development will incubate 4 Micro & Subsistence Enterprises for a period of 1 year for sustainability. Preferential access will be given to COSDEC trainees. COSDEC Trainees and entrepreneurs from the community will be provided with rental space and capacity building. The Centre is currently at the application stage.

Coaching and Mentoring Services

The Centre provide Micro and Subsistence Enterprises with advice and guidance on running a sustainable business. The Centre defines the roles in the mentoring relationship and capacitate what it has to offer in the relationship, e.g., knowledge, skills, resources, product development, etc.The Centre ensures that each mentee has an approved mentoring agreement and make sure that the mentees business progress is monitored and evaluated during the coaching and mentorship period. The Micro and Subsistence Enterprises will be charged a small fee for the services, those that have attended training with the Centre will pay 50% less for the services. The Coaching and mentorship services will be available as from end of February 2015.

Resource Centre and general Support

The Business Development Support Centre will be running a resource Centre, the Centre will provide access to books, publications and business tool guides, as well as daily newspapers to the public. The Resource Centre will also run an internet café and printing, copying and faxing services will be provided. The trainees could also use the Resource Centre for studying. The Resource Centre will be fully functional as from March 2015. General services would include compilation of business proposals, Designing of Business cards and Logos.
