The Namibia Community Skills Development Foundation (COSDEF) is the national umbrella body for the Community Skills Development Centres (COSDECs). It is a registered Trust, governed by a Board of Trustees.
To be the preferred provider of community skills development training, to increase the income-earning capacity of Namibia’s marginalized populations – unemployed youth, women, and low skilled adults – by developing their entrepreneurial and essential skills and enhancing their participation in micro and small enterprises.
And are governed by an Advisory Board. They are responsible for the overall management of the COSDEC and reports to the COSDEF. The day-to-day running of a COSDEC is the responsi-bility of the Centre Manager.
To provide relevant practical skills training that includes business skills, entrepreneurship, and life skills to enable young people find employment in the local economy, either in the formal or informal sector. COSDEC training courses are competence based two streams of; national NQF based courses, and local community and outreach short courses. COSDECs target and market their courses mainly to unemployed youth and school drop-outs.
The courses are based on modules aligned to NQF registered unit standards and qualifications developed by Namibian Training Authority (NTA); leading to awarding at the equivalence of Levels 1 – 2 of the NQF.
The COSDECs also offer local community short and outreach courses, tailor-made to the varying local skills and socio-economic needs within the catchment areas in which they operate.
COSDEC Ondangwa, Rundu, Swakopmund and Tsumeb have business development centres.
The centres’ main objective is to provide business support training courses and technical assistance to emerging entrepreneurs.
